Currents and Backburners ...

Image
I have finished models to show and some old projects that have - in best zombie traditions, given the time of year - risen from the grave. Or, in this case, risen from the back of the painting desk and nearby shelves. To start with, I finished a second set of SAGA Shield-maidens and Villagers from Stronghold Terrain, plus one of two Frost Giants from the Conan boardgame by Monolith. The Giants are part of the expansion set, Nordheim. As you can see from the photos, both are the same, but I decided to make them differ, giving one an obvious Celtic feel and the other a more traditional cooler, frostier scheme. The SAGA Shield-maidens and Villagers will soon be joined by a selection of character figures - also from Stronghold Terrain. The two I've nearly done are Harald and Halfdan, but I'll be making a start on a number of others soon ... The Wanderer, Ivan, Ubbe Ragnarsson. As well as the above, I have had a tidy-up of the painting desk and its surroun...

Axe Maidens, A Goddess and a few Saxons ...

Image
A real mixed bag this time around. Having finally finished the set of Irish Cavalry warriors (Footsore Minis) as well as the beautifully-sculpted Axe Maidens (Stronghold Terrain Minis), I'm moving on to a band of Early Saxon troops.   But, as you will have seen from the main photo, I'll also be working on a few models from Zombicide Black Plague. Now, I've painted a few from this range before, but these larger models are always a welcome challenge. The last figure of this sort of size I painted from Black Plague was Klom, but Kirag and Thorg here - part of the Paul Bonner Guest Box - should be a joy paint ... hopefully! As well as making my way through cavalry and warrior women, I've also been working on a side-project; a beautiful model from Lucid Eye and in collaboration with the artist Jim Fitzpatrick. Eriu, the Goddess of Ireland is based on one of his most iconic paintings and is wonderfully realized from Lucid Eye. As you can see, I still have a fa...

Work In Progress: Viking SAGA Axe Maidens

Image
Although I've been working on a set of Dark Ages Irish Cavalry ( I'll be posting about them later ), they are sidelined while I get a group of beautiful sculpts from Stronghold Terrain Miniatures completed; four Axe Maidens. The all-metal figure require some assembly, but the quality of the casting makes this fairly easy. As you can see from the photos, I'm two down ( at the time of writing this ), with a third very nearly completed. I'll keep this post pretty short for now, but will return with more on this set, as well as the remaining Irish cavalry, plus a whole bunch of Footsore Irish warriors.
