Vikings, French, Americans, the odd Roman ... maybe a sorceress or two

Image
All kinds of stuff going on here in what is more of an image dump than a knowledgeable and deep posting (like I usually post, eh!? 😎) Anyway, these figures make up the last of a VERY long-term commission. Long due my own failings there, but gradually playing catching up and now completed. If nothing else, I hope you enjoy looking at the figures, most being available from either Stronghold Terrain or Footsore Miniatures .

Currents and Backburners ...

I have finished models to show and some old projects that have - in best zombie traditions, given the time of year - risen from the grave. Or, in this case, risen from the back of the painting desk and nearby shelves. To start with, I finished a second set of SAGA Shield-maidens and Villagers from Stronghold Terrain, plus one of two Frost Giants from the Conan boardgame by Monolith. The Giants are part of the expansion set, Nordheim. As you can see from the photos, both are the same, but I decided to make them differ, giving one an obvious Celtic feel and the other a more traditional cooler, frostier scheme. The SAGA Shield-maidens and Villagers will soon be joined by a selection of character figures - also from Stronghold Terrain. The two I've nearly done are Harald and Halfdan, but I'll be making a start on a number of others soon ... The Wanderer, Ivan, Ubbe Ragnarsson. As well as the above, I have had a tidy-up of the painting desk and its surroun...

Vikings, Gunners and a Pharaoh

Image
We begin this post with some work-in-progress. As of posting the viking shield maidens and the second set of villager civilians are ready for airbrush undercoating, although I still need to seal the bases first. As well as getting these painted, I've also dug-out a few figures that have been on the back-burner for a while. In the case of the two barbarians, it's just been down to time. These are from a Frostgrave multi-set. I've been meaning to make my way through them for ages, so I aim to get these two done for the shop as soon as I can. I've also got this beautiful Pharaoh figure from Lucid Eye ; again, had him hanging around - not happy with some of the details, so I'll be nipping back to this chap too while I paint the vikings! In finished stuff, I completed the set of Future Wars Action Gunners from Copplestone Castings and the Roxlade model (via Bad Squiddo ). Pretty pleased with how they turned out, so may see about getting another set of them soon. ...

Women of Action ...

A short post and a round-up of current projects, starting with another couple of sets from Stronghold Terrain; shield-maiden warriors and civilian/villagers. As always with Stronghold Terrain, these sculpts have plenty of character and action to them, making them a pleasure to paint. As you can see, I'm in the process of prep'ing; filling shoulder joints and evening out the bases before adding sand and undercoating. Next we have a selection that will eventually be added to the shop; the last two female action gunners and Roxlade - a witch/mage character from Westfalia. I purchased the latter more out of curiosity than anything else. The model was on clearance at Bad Squiddo, which seemed a pity as it's a nice sculpt. So not too sure if its still in production? A Fresh Start ...

Image
A major social media detox occurred, and I decided to close my Instagram and Twitter accounts. I did this for a few reasons but mostly because they were becoming a bit of a drag. I'd got into the regime of only really scanning through posts when I myself had something to post. If not, I rarely bothered. Pretty selfish. So a clean break was needed, although I kept my Facebook page and I'm hoping that this blog can be dusted off (again), and start posting more solid updates to my work - fingers crossed. And so ... we kick off with some recently finished models. Now, I still have a few sets to paint - two are already in prep - of some SAGA viking figures, from Stronghold Terrain . They are all beautiful sculpts, and a pleasure to paint. As you can see from the photos, we have a shield-maidens as well as some tooled-up villagers! I've also been painting some more figures for my Etsy shop , buying in some Copplestone Casting Future Wars Gunners and a Westfalia mage from Ba...
