Operation Waterfall ...

Well, this post sort-a, kinda-a flows on (eh? see what I did there) from the last one, in as far as my adventures using resin more regularly. Having managed to salvage a misted pond I'd made, I wanted to make a more competent version of a waterfall I made a while back and cringe a little how I let it go.     At the time, I was reasonably happy with it, but the more I saw of it, the more it made my teeth itch. But I still liked to overall look of the piece ... just the water aspect annoyed me*.     So I dug out the styrofoam and card and set about making another one. But thought I'd keep this one a little more compact and - dare I say - simple. Although this one does have two falls, albeit smaller.     I don't want to completely dump on the previous resin I used, but this second brand (Teexpert) just seems to be playing a little easier with me.           I also used some more of the AK Still Water ... which I can't make my mind up over. I've used it in thin coats wit

A series of annoying events ...

Safe to say that all model-painters and model-makers have moments like these, so I know it's not the end of the world, but I'm venting a little here mainly because I just managed to sort them out. So maybe I'm documenting how I dodged a couple of bullets. Firstly an older miniature with a small hand, which I was conscious of being easily snapped off ... but still managed to snap off. Yup. A real pain. It didn't help that there was barely any meat to drill into to pin it. BUT I just about managed it. As a billy bonus, I didn't stab myself with the pindrill either.   As you may be able to see in the photos, I twisted some copper wire strands to make the pin, rather than my go-to floral wire or paperclip. With the glue, I'm reasonably happy with the result and light taps give me confidence that it's good to go (and get undercoated and painted!) And so tiny crisis one is done then another appeared. This one was mostly my fault (sort-of). Someone purchased one of

A general reference post showing the Vallejo colour chart. Granted, not the best photos in the world, but may be of some help.

The Good, The Bad (Squiddo) and the Dervish

Having become ever more frustrated with Facebook and its regular talent of making even the simplest of tasks a chore, I'm (once again) determined to post more stuff here on the humble blog. I know that it really doesn't get the same number of views as Facebook, but if people stumble upon this ramshackle excuse for a blog and like the pictures and forego the ranting, I'll be more than happy. Right. Stuff. While this particular post will be a bit of a mess, with models from a selection of recent projects, I do intend to post more concise posts as I go on. But in the past few weeks I've completed a small commission of four Adventure models for #Badsquiddogames, topped-up the shop with some Stargrave Crew figures and started a chunky commission of 2000ad Strontium Dog models. So, as you can see, a real selection. As a side-note, I've dipped my toe into the use of resin for some of my basic terrain pieces. I'll post more about that another time, for now here are the

Bad Squiddo Bits and Pirate Goodness

Image
A couple of weeks back, I was able to paint-up a selection of models for Bad Squiddo Games. Of course I accepted; Bad Squiddo has really been expanding their range of late and there seems to be some pretty exciting developments in the near future. But, back to the ones I got to paint; they were a nice fantasy mix, with an Amazon Assassin, Musician, Princesses, Witches and a recent new cast - Monkeyin' Around Pirate.  As long as they looked different from the current paint-jobs from the packaging, I could do what I liked, so decided to try out some random free-paint work on the Arcane witch and the Princess; mainly because the dress and the cloak/shawl were crying out for some design or pattern. I also - for the princesses - decided to move away from the more traditional brighter, sparkly look, and went for a darker moody red and black (dark grey) scheme and a green, Gaelic warrior to the other. The plaid/check took two goes, but pretty pleased with how all the patterns turned out
