Fantasy Allsorts ...
A random selection of models, painted here-and-there between other projects. As much as I try, sometimes models lure me all too easily to paint them. On the positive side, they can act as palate cleanser when other painting gets a little mentally tedious.
The first is a real grim piece from Bad Squiddo Games; the Ghoul Matriarch. Squiddo has quite the range of ghould models - all just as beautifully horrific - and the Matriarch is the de-facto leader or figure-head of the ghoul horde. This resin model has some really nice detailing, with exposed bones, boils and a cowering male ghoul beneath her rancid foot. Nice.
I went with a soft purple/violet for the skin, more to make her into a mix of ghoul and fantasy being rather than the pale sallow skin, that might suit more traditional ghouls(?) ... I know, ghouls are dead common, eh.
I also made a basic ye-olde wooden sign with the Bad Squiddo logo to it, but this is for another model I was currrently painting (that'll show up in a later post). Quite pleased with the way it turned out. Thought that painting the logo would be more of a faf than it actually was.
Now, the third figure I picked-up is from Fenris Games, from whom I'd been meaning to buy something from for ages. So I went for the beefy ole Annuvin the Watcher. I also bought a pack of cracking resin barrels, which I initially planned to use in a terrain piece, but thought I might be able to use one on Annuvin. So in a feat of mid-level conversion technique, I roughed-out some of the barrel, mounted it to the models back, cut some strips of thin craft foam and glued them on as strapping and there you go - Annuvin the Cask-bearer! In my mind, he's the dark bringer of sacred ale or cider. Not being a gamer or collector, this chap will go to the shop, but I was really pleased with how he turned out. Highly recommended as a display model in itself, but judging by the rest of the range, would make quite an imposing group if you collect the full set.
Finally, the first in a set of Old Town guard from Checkpoint Miniatures. I got these as well as a set of Mercs, mainly due to their charater. I'll be sorting out a seperate post for the others, but I painted t his chap just to trial the colours. Wasn't convinced with the red and yellow at first - a little too fast-food-chain-ish, but they have grown on me. I like the idea of the Town Guard being suitably visible in the dank streets.
As you can see, this chap is ready to aide the citizen in their time of distress ... or to thump them with his baton for interupting his pie-lunch.
