Not what you might be expecting; although there are probably any number of allegorical (allegoric?) meanings to the Conan stories. Regardless, here are some painted models on the two ... There should be more, but that's a long story that'll have its own post. Here we have the main scene of Mary, Joseph, Jesus and the shepherds, along with their animals. Then We have Conan the Pirate, Xaltotun and Thulsa Doom from the Conan Monolith Boardgame - part of one of the later expansion packs?

Berlintuesday takes an uninvited break of late, thanks to an underfloor leak that is causing more trouble than it maybe worth. Very long story short; a pipe leaked under the floor, which means most of the flooring of my current dwelling needs to be removed and sorted ... meaning a move. Not the greatest at the best of times, but needing to move out, knowing that you need to do the reverse 3-to-6 months later, 'aint much fun either. But, there you go, eh. And so, most operations have been put on hold - can't paint with the desk, paints, varnishes and models all packed and ready to go. But, in the meantime, I have been formulating a few plans for when I return ... Oooo, intriguing, I know. Well, maybe not THAT intriguing, but I'm excited and encouraged none-the-less. Apart from a slight revamp of my painting methodology and the overall way I use my humble Etsy shop, I've also been looking at making some tshirt designs. Nothing overly crazy, but some unique designs around...

A Quick-post ...

Dusting orf the blog for a short post for 2021. Not much of huge interest, but a few pictures of some recently finished figures, and some details on what I'm currently working on. Apart from an ongoing commission of a wonderfully eclectic selection of models (from Conan to Greeks to Long-sword Crusaders!), I'm also working through some Black Scorpion Old West Civilians. These are great sculpts and have some real character to them, which makes them a pleasure to paint. Speaking of character, I had a quick sort through my humble lead mountain and found a set of figures that I've have sitting around for a bit. A group of robed Legendary Sensei minis from CP Models .  As you can see from the photo below they have a wonderfully surreal edge to them. This particular figure is called Inugami - a Japanese Dog God, but has the potential for some real variation when it comes to painting. Jumping back to the start of this post, I've been painting a few more Conan (board game) fig...

Strange Times ...

I’m done with making promises about posting here. I never seem to be able to stay on point with writing anything that maybe of interest to anyone who might stumble on it. But, given such oddly shitty times, I’m posting something. A long process (long from delays of my own creation) of completing a couple of commissions has been compounded by the muddy waters that the Covid virus has been causing. Again, not an excuse, but a far ole chunk of the blame. Regardless, I have been reasonably pleased with how most of them have been turning out. The toughest part of painting commissions – for me anyway – tends to be repetition. Sometimes having to paint the same or very similar figures back-to-back can get tedious. And while I’ve tried a few methods for elevating the problem, I found that simply sticking to one figure at a time helps. Not the ideal solution, maybe, but not bad. Luckily though, I’m currently working through a selection of figures with some beautiful variation: A few ...

Currents and Backburners ...

I have finished models to show and some old projects that have - in best zombie traditions, given the time of year - risen from the grave. Or, in this case, risen from the back of the painting desk and nearby shelves. To start with, I finished a second set of SAGA Shield-maidens and Villagers from Stronghold Terrain, plus one of two Frost Giants from the Conan boardgame by Monolith. The Giants are part of the expansion set, Nordheim. As you can see from the photos, both are the same, but I decided to make them differ, giving one an obvious Celtic feel and the other a more traditional cooler, frostier scheme. The SAGA Shield-maidens and Villagers will soon be joined by a selection of character figures - also from Stronghold Terrain. The two I've nearly done are Harald and Halfdan, but I'll be making a start on a number of others soon ... The Wanderer, Ivan, Ubbe Ragnarsson. As well as the above, I have had a tidy-up of the painting desk and its surroun...

Conan figures, Saxons and Romans!

Image
Only a small progress update here, but have all but one-ish of the Conan set to complete (a Guard), but managed to finish Zogar Sag and have nearly finished Captain Zaparravo. Other than those, are a few pics of some completed Saxons, Saxon Commanders and a few Late Romans. Should be making a start on the Old West (Dead Mans Hand) gangs, Tongs and The Count. Looking forward to painting those sets.
