Contrasting May Queens ...

Image
Very quick post here, just to show orf a slight variation I made to a pack of May Queens from Bad Squiddo Games. Having already painted a set in a traditional folksy style, with off-white gowns and flower garlands in their hair, I thought it would be interesting to paint another set with a more occult dark look to them. I didn't want to be too cliche and go outwardly satanic, but certainly strange, maybe other-worldly. As you can see, I also carefully straightened the staff on one of the figures and added some flames with green-stuff. Nothing outstanding, but I'm reasonably pleased with the result. Part of me wanted the skin tone to be a little more soft grey blue than it turned out, but, again, I quite liked the result. Anyway, that it really. Very short post on how a different colour scheme can change the nature of a model. And I know I'm somewhat biased, but these sculpts lend themselves so easily to variation when it comes to painting. Highly recommend picking up a pa...

Zombies and Amazons

Image
A few weeks back I was asked if I was able to paint up a small set of figures from Bad Squiddo Games, and I was happy to accept. Initially I had another commission lined-up, but while that was being confirmed, I had some time spare to squeeze them in. Of course, it's always a pleasure to paint anything from Badsquiddo; as well as having a nice range of genres their models have plenty of character to them, making it a breeze to let your painting creativity loose - I've long been a fan of Badsquiddo's Action Heroines duo; simple figures but brilliantly blank canvases!   Anyway. I recieved a pack of Zombie Shieldmaidens and Amazon Elite guard. Nice extremes. Grand and Grim.   Nothing too over-the-top for the Amazons; sticking to a bronze with a muted patina for the armor and plain colours for the tunics. I did, however, want to break-up that bronze a little, so made some of the details on the shin-guards and belt into turquoise gems.   The zombies were more of a chall...

Onna-Musha and Skeleton Markers ...

Image
Well, first of the Objective markers done; a pair of, rather grim, hanged skeletons, and some early prep on another goodie? , the strange Octren Glimscry. Need to catch-up on finishing two more Onna-Musha, but reasonably pleased with the first one. As usual from Bad Squiddo Games models, these are nice little scultps with plenty of detail. Just a short-and-sweet post this time!

Progress II: More Feudal Japan, Torgillius ...

Image
Another quick update from the painting desk. Torgillius is done, and the next out the box is a 'goodie' this time; Dagnai Holdenstock. A nice steampunk aestetic going on with this one, so lots of brass, copper - should be fun. As you can see, I've also finished a couple of Bad Squiddo 'Shin-whackers' (trainee bugeisha) for the Feudal Japan set. Next on the list there are a set of Onna-Musha.

Lilith and Friends ...

Image
A selection of finished figures ... From Hasslefree Miniatures and Bad Squiddo Games, I did some very lightweight conversions to all of them. The main model is the beautiful Lilith sculpt by Kev White at Hasslefree; £15 but well worth it. I made a basic base for her using a few pieces of burnt coal from the garden and used some DAS clay for the lava. A few scattered bones added to the ominous setting for her and, as it turned out, I received a freebie skull with my Bad Squiddo order, and added that as an additional detail. Speaking of Squiddo, as well as purchasing a pack of Feudal Japan Widows, I got another pack of my favourite Bad Squiddo sets - Modern Action Heronines. Love these two, and, having painted a few set of them, wanted to do something a little different with them, so gave one a hair-cut and removed the top off the other - I know, I know ... but, in my defense, I had intended to just lengthen her hair, but couldn't find any spare Greenstuff putty, so fell back on taki...

A Use For Ice-Cream Sticks ...

Image
With my sporadic painting time at the moment, as well as trying to get some model painting in, I've also started using up a large collection of Ice-cream sticks by painting them. For what? Not entirely sure at the moment; they may find themselves on the shop as just strange micro-art pieces, but you could use them as thick bookmarks? ... okay maybe not. They may look a little better in box frames too. Hmmm - Anyway, this is a quickie post to show them off. I still need to finish the lower areas, but they're pretty much done. I decided to keep them fairly simple, and go for generic fantasy types: Wizard/Mage, Elf, Cyborg, and Lovecraftian creature ... Have a few ideas for others, but for now this is just a sideline while still painting from a suitcase!
