Completed Ireland Goddess and Progress on an Ogre ...

Image
Surprise surprise, it's been a while since I posted. But I have since finished a few more Saxons as well as the Jim Fitzpatrick inspired model from Lucid Eye Publications of the Goddess of Ireland. I'll start with this model first, as I've been painting her on-and-off for a bit, in between the Saxons and Ogre. I didn't stay completely with the colours of the painting, but still wanted them to be fairly vibrant and jarring, so off-set the warm yellow of her dress with some soft blues then a slightly more potent green for the fringing. Overall, I'm pretty pleased with the finished product. Still unsure as the whether or not I'll keep her (I'm not really a collector or gamer), or move her on at some point.   I had some lofty ideas about making a stand that was an extension of the rocks and grass on small base, but thought she would benefit more from keeping it simple, so cut a piece of seasoned apple wood, giving it a couple of coats of light satin v...

Axe Maidens, A Goddess and a few Saxons ...

Image
A real mixed bag this time around. Having finally finished the set of Irish Cavalry warriors (Footsore Minis) as well as the beautifully-sculpted Axe Maidens (Stronghold Terrain Minis), I'm moving on to a band of Early Saxon troops.   But, as you will have seen from the main photo, I'll also be working on a few models from Zombicide Black Plague. Now, I've painted a few from this range before, but these larger models are always a welcome challenge. The last figure of this sort of size I painted from Black Plague was Klom, but Kirag and Thorg here - part of the Paul Bonner Guest Box - should be a joy paint ... hopefully! As well as making my way through cavalry and warrior women, I've also been working on a side-project; a beautiful model from Lucid Eye and in collaboration with the artist Jim Fitzpatrick. Eriu, the Goddess of Ireland is based on one of his most iconic paintings and is wonderfully realized from Lucid Eye. As you can see, I still have a fa...

Conan figures, Saxons and Romans!

Image
Only a small progress update here, but have all but one-ish of the Conan set to complete (a Guard), but managed to finish Zogar Sag and have nearly finished Captain Zaparravo. Other than those, are a few pics of some completed Saxons, Saxon Commanders and a few Late Romans. Should be making a start on the Old West (Dead Mans Hand) gangs, Tongs and The Count. Looking forward to painting those sets.

Currently on the desk ...

As a first real  post; well a post with some content, we'll start with what figures are currently sitting on the paint desk. I'm at the tail-end of a commission at the moment, a commission that has stuttered somewhat due to a dose of Life getting in the way. So I'm playing catch-up. Finished are a selection of Saxons, Viking women, some Conan figures and a Roman Ballista - quite the selection! And on the nearly-done/still-to-come side, are some more Romans, a couple of Saxon commanders and (not shown) two Dead Man's Hand gangs. A pretty eclectic mix, I think you'll agree. Still, enjoyable to paint none-the less. No promises, but I'll try my best to update this blog on a regular basis, with info on the other sort of stuff I do too, such as foam props, painting and photography. P.S. The figures are from a mixture of manufacturers, most being either Stronghold Terrain or Footsore Miniatures.
