Malifaux Sun Quiang and Fish Painting ...

A quick and somewhat pithy post here, just to document some work-in-progress on a Malifaux Sun Quiang figure from Wyrd Miniatures. I've had this model sitting around for a while, racking my brains with what to paint on it. I'd always wanted to make it a bit special and brush-up ( seriously, no pun intended! ) on freehand painting, so decided to keep it fairly traditional and aim at something along the Chinese/Japanese look - nothing too specific, but along those lines. I started with the idea of a simple pattern on the under-robe and a dragon on the back of the top-robe. This then evolved to various Chinese demons and various forms of Kabuki masks. Then I thought of Koi and a watery theme for the lower-robe and moving up to a landscape scene for the top-robe. This seemed like an okay idea, but the more I thought on it, the more I felt the painting on the back should be a little bolder ... and so I went for just Koi.
