New Year, Stuff Done, Back to Commissions
A new year and - in a couple of ways - a new way of assessing and doing things for me. In a personal sense its been the end of my first completely full year of being sober. It's not been pleseant or easy, but the want for alcohol in general as well as while painting is slowly waining. Part of its effect was how far behind it put me with painting both stuff to go on my shop and completing commissions. I found it way too easy to accept them, but became overwhelmed by them as I fell further and further behind. But, with a slightly clearer mind, I've been working on speeding up my painting and processing, without (hopefully) dropping the general quality of the work.
This brings me nicely onto what I've been doing of late. As usual, I haven't been updating the blog as regularly as I should have - although I have been posting stuff on both my Instagram and Facebook pages, so I've not been fully off-radar.
Regarding stuff done, I painted and scratch-built a selection of stuff to go on the shop. I'm currently testing some different types of general pieces, apart from my generic 'rocky outcrops and hillocks'. These include trees and some rough-n-ready ruined buildings. I also added some Frostgrave Barbarians and a couple of models sets - Dark Angel Veterans from Games Workshop and some smart 20mm Germans from CP Models.
Luckily, people have still been interested in me painting some models for them, so after a two-month cut-off from accepting commissions, I've already taken on a few small batches. One recently-finished set were from Great Escape Games; a group of gunslingers from their updated Old West game Dead Man's Hand Redux. Being both a Old West film fan as well as Old west miniatures, the models were a pleasure to paint, and I was pretty pleased with the way they turned out.
As of writing this post, I'm currently finishing some models for Bad Squiddo Games. I've painted a number of models from Squiddo over the years (love their Action Heroines!), so to get a small commission for some was - for me anyway - pretty dang cool. As you can see, I'm working on some undead zombie shieldmaidens and a couple of Amazon warriors. As with the figures from GEG, the sculpts are a delight to paint, and have plenty of character to them.
I'll wind up this post now, to make room for the inevitable image dump (in no real order). I plan to post a few more beauty shots for future posts, but don't hold your breath!
